50-year-old woman delivers four babies after conflicting scan reports

Olushola Olonode says conflicting ultrasound results left her unsure how many babies she was expecting until she delivered two boys and two girls.

50-year-old woman delivers four babies after conflicting scan reports

Olushola Olonode, a 50-year-old Nigerian woman, has shared how she gave birth to quadruplets after receiving conflicting ultrasound results from different doctors, with scans initially suggesting twins before later indicating three and eventually four babies.

Olonode recounted her experience during a thanksgiving service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Solid Rock Parish, Ojodu Berger, Lagos, where she reflected on her journey to motherhood after years of waiting to get married.

Introducing herself to the congregation, Olonode said she married on December 12, 2023, after waiting 48 years and was determined not to delay starting a family.

“I’ve always said it. Since I’ve waited this way, I don’t want to wait twice. Let me do all the waiting together. I’ve waited for a husband, I don’t want to wait for children,” she said.

According to Olonode, she conceived the following year and attended her first ultrasound appointment, where one doctor believed she was carrying twins.

“The first doctor said, ‘I think I can see twins.’ I told my husband, ‘Even if it is one, they will stop calling me Mummy Shola,'” she recalled.

A second scan produced a different assessment after another doctor said he could see three babies. During a later appointment, the same doctor revised the figure once more.

“He said, ‘How many did I tell you I saw?’ I said, ‘Three.’ He said, ‘I think I’m seeing four.’ I said, ‘Four?’ So I told my husband, ‘I’m not coming back.’ Maybe I’ll see five,” she said, prompting laughter from the congregation.

The uncertainty was made more difficult by a bleeding scare during the pregnancy, which left Olonode fearing she might have lost one or more of the babies.

Despite those concerns, she delivered two boys and two girls on March 6, 2026, just three weeks before celebrating her 50th birthday on March 31.

“To the glory of God, on March 6, 2026, I gave birth to two boys and two girls,” she said.

Olonode also shared her family’s reaction to the remarkable birth.

She said her husband informed an aunt, whose family has a history of multiple births, that the couple had welcomed more than twins.

“My aunt said, ‘I don’t want twins again. I want three.’ My husband said, ‘Four,'” she recounted with a smile.

Ending her testimony, Olonode expressed gratitude for safely delivering all four children and surviving the pregnancy.

“I want to thank God for sparing my life. The living was not brought out of the dead. And the dead was not brought out of the living,” she said.

Multiple pregnancies, particularly quadruplets, are uncommon and are generally regarded as high-risk because of the increased likelihood of complications for both the mother and babies.

Medical experts typically recommend close monitoring throughout such pregnancies, especially for women of advanced maternal age.
