Katherine Jenkins, 39, was caught up in a street theft in London on her way to perform at the Straubenzee Memorial charity carol service at St Luke’s Church. It has been reported that as she walked along King’s Road, she spotted an elderly woman being robbed by two teenage girls, in what witnesses described as an “extremely violent” incident.
But as a result of intervening in the incident, Katherine was robbed herself, according to the Mail Online.
Katherine waited for officers to arrive at the scene and she was later able to help police identify the attackers.
Pictures obtained by the publication show a visibly distressed Katherine speaking with the officers following the street theft.
Katherine’s spokesperson confirmed the incident and told Express.co.uk that the star had seen the elderly woman being attacked and had gone over to assist her, before falling victim herself.
In a statement, the singer’s agent said: “Katherine was in London to sing at the Henry van Straubenzee memorial charity carol concert at St Luke’s Church.
“On her way to rehearsal she witnessed an older lady being mugged and intervened to help.
“As a result of her stepping in, Katherine was then mugged herself.”
The Neath-born star went on to perform at the Henry van Straubenzee concert in Chelsea yesterday.
Her agent added: “She didn’t want to let the charity down.”
Scotland Yard also confirmed to the publication that police were called at 15.10pm on Wednesday after a robbery was reported.
Officers arrested two 15-year-old girls on suspicion of robbery and stated a female member of the public had tried to intervene.
They were released under investigation, but one was re-arrested on Thursday in connection with the same incident after further information was received.
“A female member of the public had attempted to intervene,” the Met spokeswoman added.
A police officer was allegedly assaulted during the incident but did not require hospital treatment.
Katherine is a Welsh mezzo-soprano singer and songwriter and is a classical-crossover singer.
She regularly performs opera, popular songs, musical theatre and hymns.
The service Katehrine was on her way to was organised by the Henry van Straubenzee Memorial Fund.
It was set up shortly after the 18-year-old, who was a close friend of Princes William and Harry, died in a car crash in 2002.
King’s Road became famous in the 1960s for being at the centre of London’s fashion scene, and has been associated in recent years with reality show Made In Chelsea.
