Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, approved the appointment of five new aides to coordinate youth, women, senior citizens and grassroots mobilisation across Akwa Ibom State.

The appointments, which took effect immediately, were announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah.

The newly appointed officials are Mrs Mercy Eka, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Senior Citizens Mobilisation; Ms Blessing Ossom, Senior Special Assistant on Grassroots Mobilisation; Obongama Jimmy, Special Assistant on Youth Mobilisation; Dr (Mrs) Alice Etuk, Senior Special Assistant on Women Mobilisation; and Smart Samuel Usanga, Special Assistant on Youth Mobilisation.

The appointments bring fresh personnel into roles focused on connecting the administration with groups that form a significant part of the state’s social and political landscape.

Mrs Eka will lead engagement with senior citizens, while Ossom will focus on grassroots mobilisation.

Jimmy and Usanga have been assigned youth mobilisation responsibilities, with Etuk taking charge of women mobilisation.

The concentration of the appointments on mobilisation suggests an effort by the administration to strengthen communication and engagement beyond the state government’s central structures, particularly at community level.

The appointments also come at a time when Governor Eno’s administration is continuing to position youth participation, women’s involvement and grassroots engagement as important elements of governance in the state.

All five appointments became effective on September 1, 2026, according to the Secretary to the State Government.

The state government congratulated the new appointees and wished them success as they assume their respective responsibilities.

The latest appointments expand the network of political and administrative aides supporting Governor Eno and give the administration dedicated officials for maintaining contact with specific demographic and community groups.

For the appointees, the immediate task will be to translate their newly assigned mandates into meaningful engagement, particularly in communities where effective communication with government can influence how policies and programmes are understood and received.

With two of the five appointments specifically focused on youth mobilisation and separate positions created for women, senior citizens and grassroots engagement, the changes place community outreach firmly at the centre of the governor’s latest administrative decisions.
