The Showtime Flag Football League has announced a landmark ₦60 million reward commitment for its 2026/27 Season XV, introducing a newly designed championship trophy valued at no less than $20,000 alongside premium championship rings for the eventual winners.

The announcement marks one of the biggest investments in African flag football as Showtime continues its ambition to build a fully professional league capable of setting new standards for the sport in Nigeria and across the continent.

Season XV will run from September 20, 2026, to May 2, 2027, culminating in the highly anticipated Showtime Bowl XV, where the league’s champions will compete for the biggest prize package in the competition’s history.

₦15 million awaits the champions

At the heart of the reward structure is the Showtime Bowl XV championship, with the winning team receiving ₦15 million in cash, lifting the new premium trophy and earning individual championship rings.

The runners-up will take home ₦6 million, ensuring that both finalists receive significant financial rewards for reaching the season finale.

Unlike previous editions, Showtime says the redesigned championship trophy is intended to become a lasting symbol of excellence rather than simply another piece of silverware.

The league revealed that the trophy is being crafted with an estimated value of at least $20,000, reflecting the prestige and long-term ambition attached to its flagship championship.

Every member of the winning team will also receive a personalised championship ring, with each ring expected to be worth at least $30, providing players with a permanent reminder of their title-winning achievement.

Regular season and Cup prizes expanded

The financial rewards extend well beyond the championship game.

The Regular Season Champion will receive ₦5 million, while the winners of the 5v5 Coed Cup will earn ₦4 million.

Showtime has also strengthened its player recognition programme by investing directly in individual performances throughout the campaign.

The league’s Male and Female Most Valuable Players will each receive ₦1 million in cash in addition to a ₦1 million professional contract payable over a 12-month period.

Players selected in the Team of the Season will receive ₦300,000 each, excluding the MVP winners, while every player named in the Team of the Week will earn ₦10,000, subject to the league’s terms and conditions.

According to Showtime, the expanded rewards demonstrate its belief that professional sport should create genuine economic value, recognition and career opportunities for athletes.

Building a premium African sports property

Beyond prize money, the league believes Season XV represents another major step in its long-term vision of developing Africa’s leading professional flag football competition.

The investment follows Showtime’s continued expansion of the sport, including the establishment of Showtime Arena in Lagos, regarded as the continent’s first professional flag football stadium.

League organisers say the combination of regular-season competition, weekly player awards, the 5v5 Cup, playoffs and the Showtime Bowl creates multiple commercial opportunities for sponsors while providing athletes with a structured professional pathway.

Olympic momentum

The timing of the investment is particularly significant as flag football prepares for its historic Olympic debut at Los Angeles 2028.

With global interest in the sport continuing to grow, Showtime is positioning Nigeria as a major hub for competitive flag football through sustained investment in infrastructure, athlete development and professional competition.

When Season XV concludes on May 2, 2027, one team will leave with far more than a championship title.

Waiting at the summit will be ₦15 million, premium championship rings and a trophy worth at least $20,000—a prize package designed to ensure that winning looks, feels and is rewarded like true professional sport.
