Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to return to the Portugal national team during the November international break, according to Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) president Pedro Proença.
Speaking on Saturday, Proença said the federation, head coach Jorge Jesus and the players are all aligned in wanting the captain back.
“The federation, the coach and all team-mates agree — everyone wants Cristiano back. I am already expecting him during the international break in November,” Proença said.
He added that Ronaldo is also willing to return.
“Cristiano is also willing to return. He’s the best of all time,” the FPF president stated.
Portugal are scheduled to face Denmark at home on November 14 and Wales away on November 17 in the UEFA Nations League.
Ronaldo left the national team camp earlier this international window after being an unused substitute against Norway and learning he would not start against Denmark. He later apologised and indicated he would make himself available again after any disciplinary measures.
The FPF’s disciplinary committee has opened a process against the 41-year-old and imposed a provisional suspension. Proença said any final sanction would be decided independently by the committee.
“That depends solely on the disciplinary committee, which, as an autonomous body, will get the job done,” he said.
Despite the ongoing process, Proença emphasised a collective desire to reunite the squad as soon as possible.
“Everyone, without exception, wants to be together again in November,” he said.
