A police corporal attached to the Ajaokuta Division of the Kogi State Police Command has allegedly shot dead his girlfriend, also a police officer, before taking his own life.
The incident reportedly occurred around 9pm on Friday, October 23, 2026.
The deceased officers were identified as Corporal Amos and Woman Corporal Grace.
According to accounts, Amos was assigned to night-duty station guard and resumed duty at about 6pm. He later abandoned his post and went to Grace’s quarters, where he allegedly opened fire on her before turning the weapon on himself.
Sources said Grace sustained gunshot wounds to her shoulder, lower abdomen and leg. Amos then reportedly shot himself with an AK-47 rifle.
The two junior officers had been in a relationship for several years. Sources claimed they began experiencing trust issues and allegations of infidelity in recent months, which led to physical confrontations and threats.
The Divisional Crime Officer had previously detained them and advised them to end the relationship for the sake of peace.
The Kogi State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Afusat, said the police were still probing the matter and would issue an official statement once a conclusive report was available.
The bodies of the two officers have been deposited at a mortuary pending further investigation.
