There was tension Friday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital following the death of three people in the aftermath of a clash between some Hausa and Yoruba traders at the Sasa area of Akinyele Local Government.

The crisis, according to residents of the area, started on Thursday evening following an argument between Hausa man and a pregnant woman in the area

Our correspondent gathered that a cobbler who tried to intervene in the ensuing argument was allegedly hit with a charm and he later died on Friday morning while receiving treatment.

Freelanews learnt that following the death of the cobbler, youths took to the street of Sasa yesterday morning and unleashed mayhem, during which two people were said to have lost their lives.

Our correspondent reports that houses, cars and articulated vehicles were destroyed by angry youths who protested against the killing of the cobbler.

The police public relations officer in the state, Olugbenga Fadeyi, who confirmed the incident, however, said that only one person was killed.

Fadeyi said, “It was a clash between two social miscreants. One of them, Adeola Sakirundeen, was hit by the other. He died while receiving treatment in a hospital.’’

He said the commissioner of police and the special adviser on security to the governor and other members of the police tactical team had visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment, while policemen have been deployed to the area to maintain order.
