A couple who chained themselves together for 123 days to test their relationship’s strength, called it quits the moment they broke free from the chain.

The couple from Kharkiv in Ukraine, Alexander Kudlay, 33, and Viktoria Pustovitova, 29, decided to do so in an attempt to fix their on-again-off-again relationship, which ultimately led them to break up.

The chain was broken by giant cutters at Kyiv at the Unity Monument, where they first decided to chain themselves together. The two were relieved and said they couldn’t wait to go their own separate ways.

“Hooray,” reacted Victoria on being free and said, “I want to live my own independent life, and grow as an independent person,” as reported by news agency Mirror.

The lack of privacy in their relationship was a major factor in the split. They were both getting “fed up” with each other. The two had to do everything together.

They also sewed zippers on their clothes to make the dressing-undressing process easier. Viktoria even went to work with Alexander where he sold cars and parts.

Alexander and Viktoria also broke the Ukrainian and World record of longest times being chained as a couple On May 19.

The couple also hoped to raise millions from this stunt and wanted to donate a substantial amount to charity.

“We want to donate $2million (£1.4million) to charity and are currently negotiating. We will leave $1million (£700,000) for our personal use,” Alexander had previously said.

The couple documented their journey on Instagram and also thanked their followers for the tremendous support they received.

The unchaining process was supervised by Ukrainian records chief Vitaly Zorin.

As of now, Alexander and Viktoria live in separate parts of Ukraine.
