An Australia based Nigerian dad has expressed his disappointment at the political elites in Nigeria over their continued attempt at making the country retrogress.

In a post on social media, the man, whose surname is Abubakar, lamented about the state of his country when a lawmaker representing South Eastern Metropolitan region of the Australian state of Victoria, David Limbrick, sent his son a 18th birthday message and informed him of his rights as he entered adulthood which included voting in elections.

Limbrick, in his letter, encouraged the younger Abubakar to be active participant in the political process.

“As your state member for South Eastern Metropolitan region in Victoria, I encourage you to have your say and take an active role in the political process,” he stated.

Spurred by this, the dad wondered why it is difficult for Nigerian politicians to take same initiative and ensure that Nigerians youths are sufficiently encouraged and carried along the Nigerian democratic process at home.

“Here is letter sent to my first son last month by our State House Member to welcome him to the voting process and access to his office this year as he turned 18years, the legal age to vote here which is compulsory with a jail sentence if you do not vote.

“Please read and tell me why this is not possible in Nigeria, is it the cost of postage, education or what exactly.

“Note, I was not born here but the month I became a citizen in 1992, I was welcomed same way by all parties and I picked one and remained in it till date. It is like my membership to ManU since 1990 and all other affiliations.

“So I need a person to tell me why this difficult in Nigeria, remember this kid still lives with me and pay all his bills and yet he has his right completely to himself with no control from me or his mum (even though he and his mum belong to different football club from me, he still makes his decision with no one influencing him),” he revealed. See the letter below.
