A veteran journalist, Babajide Otitoloju, has lectured the federal government on the best way to handle the group of bandits terrorising the country especially in the northern part of the country.

Recall that the calls for the rehabilitation and resettlement of surrendered terrorists have been increasing daily even in the midst of indicting reports by the United Nations (UN) report, which detailed how a secret government programme tagged, Suhlu, has been designed to pull commanders of terrorists groups, including Boko Haram and the Islamic State for West African Province (ISWAP) out of the forests, rehabilitate them and provide them a means of livelihood.

During a Television Continental (TVC)’s ‘Journalists Hangout’ programme and monitored by Freelanews, Otitoloju explained that since the terrorists didn’t think twice before slaughtering Nigerians, they also deserve no pity.

“Government needs to be decisive about fighting terrorism because they know these people,” he said.

A claim he backed up when he noted that the aftermath of the unpopular statement of the Emir of Muri in Taraba State, Abbas Tafida, when he issued a 30-day ultimatum for cattle herders to vacate forests in the state or be flushed out.

In reaction, Miyetti Allah, a Fulani herders’ group, said they were working hard to fish out criminals in their ranks, which they did. Recently. the group handed over 11 suspected kidnappers and gun runners to the police.

The chairman of the Miyyetti Allah Cattle breeders Association in the state, Sahabi Tukur, said this was done in response to pledge made before the Emir of Muri Alhaji Abbas Tafida, and state Commissioner of police that they will expose criminal elements among them.

He said the committee members drawn from all the Fulani clans in the state would work along with police and other security agents in all the 16 local government areas of the state to fish out kidnappers and other criminals.

“If other emirs in north, without the fear of reprisal attacks, could follow in the Emir of Muri footprints, then the war against terrorism would indeed bear fruits,” he submitted.
