‘It is compulsory’ We will go back to Afghanistan, US senator, Lindsey Graham, says

US SENATOR LINDSAY GRAHAM PS

Despite the fact that the current president ended the 20-year conflict with Afghanistan just last month, US Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) has predicted that the US military “will be going back into Afghanistan” in the future owing to the threat of terrorism.

Graham, a US foreign policy war hawk, praised former President Donald Trump for maintaining the US military presence in Afghanistan, but predicted that the Taliban will “impose a lifestyle on the Afghan people that I think will make us all sick to our stomachs” in an interview with the BBC on Monday, September 6.
He then recommended that the US arm the Panjshir rebellion so that Afghanistan does not have a central government.

“The Taliban will impose a lifestyle on the Afghan people that I think is going to make us all sick to our stomach.”. he said

“Most significantly, they’ll provide a safe haven for Al-Qaeda, which wants to push us out of the Middle East as a whole and attack us for our way of life.
We’ll return to Afghanistan, just like we did to Iraq and Syria,” he continued.

Following this comment, BBC anchor Stephen Sackur questioned, “Do you honestly believe the US will send soldiers back into Afghanistan in the near future?”

“We’ll have to because the threat will be so large,” Graham responded.

Citing the situations in Iraq and Syria, the Republican senator predicted that Afghanistan will be a “cauldron for radical Islamic behavior.”

” Here’s my solution, support the resistance in the Panjshir Valley to avoid the fracture of the country that would create a perfect storm for Western interests to be attacked and to hit them before they hit you.”

Graham previously criticized President Joe Biden’s decision to follow up on Trump’s planned withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan.

“We’re leaving thousands of Afghan allies behind who fought bravely with us. We’re going to leave hundreds of American citizens behind.” he said last month in an interview with Face the Nation.
