Taraba State Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku has asked the federal government to send soldiers to the state’s border areas as soon as possible.
This, he claims, is to put a stop to the actions of amazonian troops from the neighboring nation of Cameroon, who have been terrorizing the locals.
Ishaku, who declared this in response to recent attacks by Cameroonian soldiers on Manga village in Takum Local Government Council, added that the appeal became essential due to the width of the border.
Making this appeal during his appearance on Channels Television, he affirmed that Taraba has one of the longest borders with the Republic of Cameroon.
Passionately seeking the presence of security personnel in the State to man the border, he said, “there is an absolute need that this boundary must be manned by security agencies,” stressing that, “the military, precisely must man it.”
The governor who went further to stress how heavily armed the Cameroonian soldiers are, said “they are a separatist group,” adding that “when they kill, they run away.”
Admitting that, ” it is not an easy thing, ” he emphasized that the military should be the ones to be deployed to the border communities.
The governor, who claimed he had previously urged the military to help safeguard the border, expressed disappointment that his request was met with skepticism.
Despite the fact that, in the aftermath of the latest incident, both the military and the police have been dispatched to the neighborhood, more has to be done.
Recall that Cameroonian army recently stormed Manga settlement in Takum council, murdering eleven people.
