As Nigerians count down to Christmas, a prestigious club in Lagos, Ikoyi Club, where members are billionaires, has suspended the husband of one of the richest women in Africa, Folorunsho Alakija.

In a poster seen on the club’s notice board and making the rounds on the internet, Freelanews notes that Modupe Alakija’s membership has been barred for a year for assaulting and abusing a fellow member, the act seen as running contrary to the rules of the club.

The notice, which was printed on the club’s letterhead paper and signed by its secretary, Bamidele Ibironke, carried a smiling picture of the billionaire.

“The above-named member of the Club is hereby placed on a one (1) year suspension from the Club for physically assaulting and abusing a fellow member, conduct injurious to the interest of the Club, thereby violating Rule 9(c) of the Club’s Rule Book.

“This suspension takes effect from December 1st, 2021 to November 30, 2022,” it read.

Alakija, apart from being a lawyer himself, is the son of the popular Nigerian Lawyer, Sir Adeyemo Alakija.

He got married to a co-lawyer, Folorunsho, in May 1976 and after his marriage, he relocated to Lagos, Nigeria, where he currently lives with his wife and four children.

Modupe Alakija alongside his wife is ranked no.20 in the Forbes Billionaires ranking and own several investments in the Oil sector and real Estates with their combined networth running into millions of dollars.

Details of what led to a whole year long suspension were still sketchy as at press time.
