The Chief justice of the federal high court, John Tsoho, has asked for candidates for judges in 13 states and the federal capital area (FCT).
The letter is captioned “appointment of fifteen (15) additional judges for the federal high court bench” and is dated December 20.
The National Judicial Council (NJC), the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), and the National Bar Association were all addressed in the letter (NBA).
“I write to inform your lordships, the honorable Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, as well as the president of the Nigerian Bar Association, that the exercise for considering candidates for possible appointment to the bench of the federal high court with regard to some states will soon commence,” the chief judge wrote.
“The states in issue include Akwa-Ibom, Bauchi, Benue, Ekiti, Enugu, FCT, Kaduna, Katsina, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Rivers, Sokoto and Zamfara.
“In line with the NJC Guidelines and Procedural Rules for appointment of Judicial Officers of Superior Courts, I therefore invite your lordships, the honourable attorney-general of the federation and minister of justice and the president Nigerian Bar Association to kindly nominate suitably qualified persons from the aforementioned states for appointment to the federal high court bench.
“Your recommendations should reach my chambers, latest by the 14th February, 2022.”
