Contrary to some reports, fresh facts have emerged on circumstances surrounding the death of a policeman attached to the Sagamu residence of former Ogun governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

A security aide at the former governor’s residence who pleaded anonymity as he was not authorised to speak on the matter said some complaints by some purported security details at the governor’s residence as reported by some news media (not this paper) are mere lies put out to smear Daniel.

The officer said security aides performed only sentry duties at their duty posts and were not reduced to slaves as insinuated, noting that there are gatemen, gardeners and other domestic staff to do the former governor’s assignments.

“We have our office near the gate where we stay anytime we are on duty. In fact we usually stay at the sentry house up, if you know Daniel house very well,” he said.

He confirmed that on the said date of the accident, the Police officer was not in any way reduced to a gateman because the Gate was opened by the driver himself.

The security officer challenged anyone with proof of such claims to come out and say. He said visitors, including journalists could bear witness that gatemen, not police officers open gates for them whenever they visit the residence.

On the remuneration of security details, the source also confirmed that it is a blatant lie that police officers attached to the former Governor were being paid N2,500. He said each of the policemen attached to Governor Daniel’s convoy are paid allowance of N50,000 per month. Apart from this, they are also paid Service Charges of between N18,000 and N20,000 depending on how much was shared or the ranks. Not only that, each member of the convoy is entitled to a meal per day, which includes the drivers in the Convoy.
