Ayodeji Daniel, a final-year student at the National Open University (NOUN), has described how N60,000 vanished without his knowledge from his Zenith Bank account.

According to Daniel, the incident occurred on March 2, while he was attempting to pay his tuition.

“I was trying to make my school fee payment because our exams were starting on May 6,” Daniel explained.

“I credited my Zenith Bank account with N60,000, but while trying to make payments into the school account, I was unable to access the account through the bank’s mobile application.

“A few moments later, I noticed a N59,900 debit. Before I could respond, a N53.75 NIP charge notification arrived on my phone. I eventually lost the money before I could use it to pay my school fees.”

Daniel stated that he immediately went to the Zenith Bank branch in Ketu, Lagos, to file a complaint, but was told by the official he met that it was possible that he had compromised his account and debit card details.

“I made him understand that I specifically used the account for savings so that I could use the proceeds for my school fee payment,” Daniel explained.

“I have also never compromised my debit card in any way because I am very careful with its use. I have never disclosed its specifics to anyone.

“Now, I may be prevented from writing my exams because of my inability to pay my fees. My academic progress is now jeopardised as a result of the unauthorised debit on my Zenith Bank account.”

Daniel stated that the official eventually asked him to write a complaint letter, which he did.

“After I submitted the letter, I was informed that whoever accessed my account had transferred the N60,000 to a WEMA Bank account. “She, on the other hand, did not give me the account name,” the student explained.

“Please reverse the funds into my account. If I don’t make that payment before exams begin, I won’t be able to graduate on time. It’s time for my final exams.”

On Friday evening, all attempted to contact Ogheneochuko Itemeh, one of the Zenith Bank officials with whom Daniel had been in contact regarding the matter, but his phone calls were not returned. He had also not responded to Ejes Gist News Nigeria’s text message at the time of publication.
