But unfortunately for the station, the caption was wrongly attributed.

As media practitioners, it is always a very painful experience to commit a gaffe no matter how professional we are or the number of years one may have committed into the profession.

The latest culprit of such oops moment was the almighty Channels TV, one of the leading broadcast stations in Nigeria. #ThisIsWhatsTrending

Few hours ago during its news bulletin, the station posted a comment attributed to the presidential candidate of Labour Party at an event.

“Peter Obi calls for a new Nigeria where everyone stands a chance for growth and success. He also re-echoed requests for the release of pro-Biafra agitator Nnamdi Kanu. #CTVTweets #PoliticsToday,” the caption read.

But unfortunately for the station, the caption was wrongly attributed.

Contrary to the post, a lawyer and human rights activist, Mike Ozekhome, was claimed by the news anchor during the audio narration to have been the author of the caption.

And instead of running Ozekhome’s clip, it was Peter Obi’s speech that was displayed and there was nowhere he mentioned the statement credited to him.

“We need a new Nigeria. A Nigeria where those of us, people, who we’re son of nobody would be great, live well, have a job, earn a living. That’s all we want.I’m sure this ****, on their own, will play their part. We’ll continue to play our part. I enjoin all of you to know that this new Nigeria is not going to be easy, because we have people who have lived off this confusion for a long time, they’re not going to walk away. All of us must stay until they go away, because they would go,” Peter Obi was heard saying in the clip.
