The mother of the late sensational hip-hop artiste, Oladapo Olaitan Olaonipekun, popularly known as DaGrin, has revealed that she couldn’t beg his colleagues in the music industry for sustenance because she regards them as her children.

She made this known while pleading to Nigerians to come to her aid as it is becoming difficult for her to feed.

According to a video she made, the late superstar’s mother now sells food by the roadside despite her old age, and the income she generates is inadequate to support her family.

She also claimed that she avoids specific areas for fear of recognition by certain individuals.

Dagrin’s mother expressed her sorrow over her poor state and appealed for a suitable place for her family to live. She implored Nigerians to contribute between N3 million to N5 million to help her start a business.

“Please I am poor and I want Nigerians to come and help me, I currently sell food by the roadside but the stress is too much and I am getting really old, I need accommodation, please Nigerians I need like N3Million- N5Million, I can’t go and beg Rapper Olamide for money because it is somehow as he is not an Elder, I look at him like a son,” she said in part.

In the past, some individuals have tried to support the family in their own capacities and in keeping the memory of the late superstar alive. One of them was the celebrity media guru and publisher of Metronews NG, Otunba Femi Davies.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, Otunba Davies, with the supports of some few friends, tracked down DaGrin’s mother and his siblings at her abode in Agbado area of Lagos State and donated food items and cash to the family.

The Chief Executive Omoita, CEO, as he fondly referred to himself, won a general acceptance unheard of rap artistes when he launched, infusing street language while giving the voice to the underrepresented in the mainstream.

The indigenous Pon Pon Pon crooner was exclusively responsible in giving wing to a movement that paved the way and imprinted an everlasting impact on contemporary Afropop in Nigeria. This created an easy template for the likes of Olamide, Davido and others to flourish.
