Reactions have begun to trail the submission of only eight names as commissioner nominees by the governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun.
Recall that Ogun State House of Assembly unveiled the names sent to it by Abiodun for confirmation and have since invited them for screening tomorrow, Wednesday, August 2, 2023 by 12 noon.

The speaker of the house, Kunle Oluomo, made the announcement during today’s plenary held at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, directing that the nominees submit (30) thirty copies each of their curriculum vitae and credentials to the Office of the Clerk of the Legislative Service latest by 10:00am tomorrow.
The nominees are Oladapo Okubadejo, Adebowale Ade Adesanya, Dr. Tomi Coker, Abayomi Arigbabu, Oluwasina Olanrewaju Ogungbade, Olaolu Olabimtan, Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi and Hamzat Ganiyu.
While reacting to the report, a political analyst and resident of Ogun State wondered why the governor could only raise just eight names after four years in office.
“There seems to be a dearth of capable hands within the cycle of the governor that he can only find 8 people to be so nominated for screening as commissioners.
“I don’t want to believe also that the names read on the floor was actually sent through text message as those names didn’t accompany the acclaimed notification published last week.
“After 4 years and few months, it is expected that either old or new hands should by now be identified and brought on board to kick the ball immediately.
“To imagine that we have received bigger allocations in the last two months and people are yet to feel the presence of a continuation of incumbent is not so fantastic. May God help and bless my governor,” he wondered.
However, it is believed in some quarters that the list could be for the first batch, which was quickly put together in an attempt to beat the deadline imposed by the constitution.
“First batch. Busy elbowing Yayists away from his govt. Unfortunately, he has no structure of his own and must continue to borrow,” another opined.
Another resident said, “It is an open declaration of war against Yayi and his men.”
“It’s only a first time Governor expected to be Painstakingly nominating the executive members for screening… being a jayjaycee but in the case of our own dear returning Governor is different… Even Lagos State that has many Godfathers has done the needful and move on with serious business… Keep watching and call your Governor to transparency and accountability…. Ire oooooo,” another concerned resident submitted.
For the 28 governors inaugurated on May 29 alongside the Nigerian president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, last Saturday, July 29, made the 60-day deadline.
The alteration bills to the 1999 constitution signed into law by former President Muhammadu Buhari before he left office on May 29 stipulated that the President and governors shall within 60 days of taking the oath of office forward the names of their nominees to the legislature for confirmation.
