Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa has been sworn in as the substantive Chairman of Agege Local Government by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, with a call for inclusive leadership and grassroots development

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday formally swore in Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa as the substantive Chairman of Agege Local Government Area, emphasizing the need for grassroots-focused development and alignment with the state’s broader development goals.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at Lagos House, Ikeja, also saw the inauguration of Toyin Adejimiwa as a Permanent Secretary.

Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, son of Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, had been serving as Acting Chairman prior to his confirmation.

Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted that local government is the tier of government closest to the people and called for responsive, inclusive, and compassionate leadership.

“Discipline, performance, and service delivery remain the benchmarks for leadership and advancement in Lagos State,” Sanwo-Olu said, urging Obasa to avoid divisive tendencies and focus on delivering tangible results to residents.

The governor also acknowledged retired permanent secretaries in attendance, praising their contributions as exemplary public servants whose legacies continue to inspire the civil service.

Both Obasa and Adejimiwa expressed gratitude to the governor for the confidence placed in them and pledged to uphold professionalism, core values, and standards of public service in Lagos State.

Obasa’s confirmation as substantive chairman follows the resignation of former council chairman Tunde Azeez in November due to prolonged health challenges.

The Agege Council unanimously confirmed Obasa after his stint as Acting Chairman.

Earlier, Obasa had expressed interest in contesting the chairmanship ahead of the 2025 local government elections but was reportedly dropped amid opposition to his candidacy.
