FRSC confirms fatal crash on Enugu–Port Harcourt expressway

FRSC confirms four deaths in Abia bus crash after a tyre burst on the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, with several passengers injured

The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed a fatal road crash that claimed four lives in a commercial bus accident at Nunya on the Abia State section of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway on Thursday.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Abia State, Mrs Ngozi Ezeoma, confirmed the incident in Umuahia, stating that the crash occurred at about 2:10 p.m. and involved a white Nissan Caravan bus.

According to her, preliminary findings from the Abia bus crash FRSC report indicated that a tyre burst led to the driver losing control of the vehicle.

A total of 17 male passengers were involved in the accident. Four were confirmed dead, while 12 sustained varying degrees of injury. One passenger reportedly escaped without injury.

Mrs Ezeoma further explained that a rescue team from the command responded swiftly and evacuated the victims to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, for urgent medical attention.

She added that medical personnel confirmed two passengers dead on arrival, while two others later died while receiving treatment.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital morgue as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

FRSC officials also cleared the obstruction caused by the accident to restore smooth traffic flow along the busy highway.
