Ali Haruna is being held after police alleged that he killed and beheaded a woman at a hotel in Girei, Adamawa State

A 27-year-old man, Ali Haruna, has confessed to killing a woman identified as Aisha at a hotel in Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State, according to the Adamawa State Police Command, which said the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.

Haruna, whose permanent address is listed as Kaleri in Maiduguri, Borno State, but who resides in Digno, Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State, was arrested on Friday, August 14, following the discovery of the alleged murder.

The Adamawa murder suspect reportedly told police investigators that he met Aisha at No Vex Hotel in Girei, where the pair spent time together before the incident.

During an interaction with journalists at the Adamawa State Police Headquarters in Yola on Monday, Haruna reportedly gave an account of events leading to the woman’s death.

According to the suspect’s account, the two smoked Indian hemp and had consensual sexual intercourse before he allegedly attacked and killed Aisha. Police said he subsequently beheaded the victim.

Haruna also reportedly made an unusual claim about what he did after the killing, alleging that he drank the victim’s blood.

The allegations remain subject to police investigation, and Haruna has not been convicted of the offence.

The Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the command would keep the suspect in detention while investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.

Nguroje said Haruna would be charged before a court after the investigation had been concluded.

The case has drawn attention because of the disturbing circumstances surrounding the alleged killing and the fact that the victim and suspect reportedly met for the first time before going to the hotel.

Police have not disclosed further details about Aisha, including her age, occupation or place of residence.

The command is also expected to establish what happened inside the hotel and whether anyone else was involved in the incident.

Haruna’s account will form part of the investigation, but the police will still be required to establish the evidence surrounding the alleged offence before any prosecution can proceed.

Under Nigerian law, a suspect remains presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court.

The police command’s decision to retain Haruna in custody reflects the seriousness of the allegation as investigators work to gather evidence and establish a complete timeline of events.

The case also underscores the importance of careful investigation in murder cases, particularly where an accused person’s account contains extraordinary claims that require independent verification.

As the investigation continues, the Adamawa State Police Command has not indicated when the suspect will be arraigned.
