Agbese signature row escalates as video emerges of endorsement signing amid forgery claims in Minority Leader nomination dispute

A fresh political controversy has erupted in the House of Representatives following the release of a video by Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere showing Hon. Philip Agbese allegedly signing endorsement documents linked to the Minority Leader selection process.

In the footage, recorded on May 21, 2026, Hon. Philip Agbese is seen signing two forms presented as endorsement documents for the position of Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, intensifying an already heated Agbese Signature Row within the lower chamber.

The development comes after Hon. Philip Agbese raised a point of privilege during plenary earlier in the day, alleging that his signature had been forged on a document purportedly nominating Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere for the same leadership position.

The allegation triggered immediate attention within the chamber, with lawmakers exchanging concerns over the integrity of internal nomination processes and the authenticity of submitted endorsements.

However, the release of the video by Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere appears to directly challenge the claim, showing Hon. Philip Agbese in the act of signing what are described as endorsement forms.

The contrast between the allegation and the visual evidence has further deepened political tension.

Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere and Hon. Philip Agbese are both key figures in the unfolding dispute, which has quickly become a focal point of debate among members of the House, particularly regarding procedural transparency and documentation standards.

The Agbese Signature Row has now escalated into a broader institutional issue, with lawmakers calling for clarification and possible investigation into the conflicting accounts.

As of the time of filing this report, no formal resolution has been announced by House leadership, and the matter remains under political scrutiny amid growing calls for an internal review to establish the authenticity of the disputed signatures.

The situation underscores rising tensions within minority caucus politics and the sensitivity surrounding leadership nominations in the House of Representatives.
