AGN Bayelsa Election Disruption reported as suspected thugs allegedly attack officials and derail Actors Guild poll in violent incident

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Bayelsa State Chapter election was thrown into chaos on Thursday after suspected thugs allegedly stormed the venue, disrupting proceedings and triggering a violent incident that left a senior official injured.

The election, which had commenced peacefully and was reportedly progressing smoothly, was abruptly interrupted when a group of men invaded the venue, according to eyewitness accounts.

An eyewitness said the disruption escalated rapidly as the suspected attackers began demanding the whereabouts of an unidentified target, chanting, “Where is he? Where is he?” as tension spread through the venue.

The witness alleged that the attackers initially confronted Agility Onwurah, Chairman of the National Task Force and representative of the national leadership of the Guild, before realising he was not their intended target.

It was further alleged that individuals linked to the outgoing Bayelsa State AGN Chairman, Arthy Nestow, who is seeking re-election, identified another official for the attackers, though these claims remain unverified.

The group then reportedly turned on Dr Bartholomew Aguugo, Vice President of the South-South zone of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, who was assaulted and sustained injuries during the attack.

The incident triggered panic among delegates and officials present, forcing parts of the electoral process into disarray as security concerns mounted.

Dr Aguugo is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility following the attack, while his current condition has not been publicly confirmed.

As of the time of filing this report, tension remained high around the outcome of the disrupted election, with concerns also raised over the whereabouts of Dr Aguugo’s mobile devices, which were reportedly taken during the incident.

Calls have intensified among Guild members for calm and a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the AGN Bayelsa Election Disruption, as stakeholders await further updates.
