Ajifowoke Dayo Brampton honour recognises the Nigerian filmmaker’s contributions to film, storytelling and cultural exchange

Ajifowoke Kazeem Dayo, a Nigerian filmmaker, producer and film distributor, has been formally honoured by the City of Brampton in Ontario, Canada, with a Certificate of Recognition for his outstanding contributions to film, storytelling and cultural exchange.

The recognition was presented by the Office of the Mayor of Brampton, acknowledging Ajifowoke Dayo’s growing international influence in amplifying African stories and strengthening cross cultural understanding through cinema.

City officials said the honour reflects the creative excellence and global reach of Ajifowoke Dayo’s work, which has helped position African narratives on respected international platforms.

Ajifowoke Dayo is the founder and chief executive officer of Face of Africa Media Concept, a production and distribution company established in 2014.

With more than a decade of industry experience, he has produced feature films that explore identity, social change and human connection.

His debut feature film, May 29, received multiple international awards, while his most recent work, Depth of Us released in 2024, won Best Nollywood Drama at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival.

Depth of Us has recorded wide global exposure, screening on major international airline platforms including Emirates Airlines, Turkish Airlines and Qatar Airways.

The film has also streamed across Africa, Europe and North America.

In addition, the film has been showcased at prominent festivals in the United Kingdom, Canada, Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya, reinforcing its international relevance and cultural resonance.

The Brampton ceremony also recognised other figures in the creative and civic space, including Nollywood actor Jim Iyke, media personality Dayo Israel and representatives of WakaCanada.

Being honoured alongside other high profile personalities underscored the calibre of the recognition and the broader cultural significance of Ajifowoke Dayo’s work within the global African creative community.

Beyond filmmaking, Ajifowoke Dayo serves as an international film jury member, contributing to the evaluation and development of emerging cinema through various global film festivals.

Reacting to the honour, Ajifowoke Dayo described the recognition as humbling and motivating, saying it reaffirmed his commitment to telling authentic African stories that resonate beyond borders and foster meaningful cultural dialogue.
