Elders praise Abia Governor Alex Otti for transformative elder care policies, including stipends, clinics, and housing initiatives

OPEN LETTER TO GOVERNOR DR. ALEX OTTI — THE MAN WHO REMEMBERED THE FORGOTTEN

Voices of the Elders — United, Unbroken, Unashamed_

Date: February 16, 2026
To:
His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti
Governor, Abia State
Umuahia, Abia State
Your Excellency,

We didn’t plan to cry today.

But when we heard you speak — when you stood tall and said:
> _“Our elders didn’t beg for this nation. They built it. And now, we owe them peace, respect, and care.”_

…our eyes leaked.

Because you didn’t just _say_ it.
You _did_ it.

You promised them:

  • Monthly stipends that actually arrived.
  •  Clinics that don’t turn them away
  •  Homes that smell like love, not neglect
  •  A voice — loud, clear, heard — at State House

And guess what?
They’re talking.
They’re laughing again.
They’re telling stories under mango trees — not hiding in shame.

You didn’t wait for permission to be kind.
You didn’t ask for applause to act.
You just _did right_.

And that’s why we’re writing — not just to thank you…
But to applaud you.

To the Governor who:

  1. Called elders “our greatest teachers” — not “our burden”
  2.  Made elder abuse a crime — not a shameful secret
  3.  Turned Abia into a _sanctuary_ for senior souls

We’re sending you:

  1.  A basket of kola nuts — wrapped in prayers
  2.  A scroll of names — elders who cried when they heard your name
  3.  A promise: We’ll carry your light to Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt, Kaduna — till every elder knows and do what you did, not waiting for permission or order from above: though we know that except the Federal Government create a Ministry of Senior Citizens’ Affairs it will take long before other states do likewise._

Mr. Governor — you’re not just leading Abia.
You’re showing Nigeria how to _love_ again.

Thank you for being the leader we didn’t know we needed…
Until you showed up.

With overflowing love,

Your’s faithfully

Elder Amos Olasubomi Oluwamalemidunjutiowuromilo Johnson.

P.S.
We’ll frame this letter. Hang it in every elder’s home.
Because you deserve to be remembered — not just as a governor…
But as _the man who gave elders back their dignity._
