United looked set for defeat after two quickfire goals early in the second half turned the game around for Forest, but Amad Diallo’s goal in the 81st minute a thunderous strike from outside the box ensured Erik ten Hag’s men avoided an embarrassing loss.
The visitors had gone ahead in the 34th minute through Casemiro, who powered home a header from a corner following a dominant spell of pressure that saw United carve out several chances through Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Šeško.
Forest, however, emerged from the break revitalised. Morgan Gibbs-White equalised with a well-placed header in the 48th minute, before Nicolo Savona pounced just two minutes later to put the hosts in front, sparking wild celebrations among the home fans.
Sean Dyche’s side displayed grit and structure, keeping United’s attack at bay as Matz Sels pulled off vital saves to deny Luke Shaw and Mbeumo.
But the relentless visitors pressed forward, and Amad Diallo’s goal a spectacular right-footed drive that arrowed into the top corner silenced the Forest faithful and capped an enthralling contest.
Despite Forest’s late push, including a near miss from Callum Hudson-Odoi, United’s defence held firm to secure a share of the spoils.
