Ambode Hamzat Tinubu endorsement: Akinwunmi Ambode backs Hamzat’s candidacy and Tinubu’s re-election, urging APC unity ahead of 2027 polls
Former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday, April 30, 2026, in Lagos, publicly endorsed Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, while also declaring firm support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ambode, in a statement, described Hamzat’s emergence as a product of loyalty, consistency, and long-standing commitment to the growth and unity of the party.
He said Hamzat’s wide consultations within party structures demonstrated a deliberate effort to strengthen cohesion and advance collective interests within the APC in Lagos State.
The former governor noted that the development reflects confidence in Hamzat’s experience in governance and public administration, adding that Lagos State stands to benefit from his leadership capacity.
Ambode also used the opportunity to reaffirm his political alignment with President Bola Tinubu, declaring what he described as an unshakeable commitment to the President’s re-election campaign.
He stated that continued governance under Tinubu would deliver greater prosperity for Lagos State and Nigeria, describing it as essential for long term national development.
According to him, the President’s vision remains central to Nigeria’s economic progress, and sustaining it would produce what he called “bountiful returns” for citizens.
Ambode further called on APC members across Lagos State to intensify mobilisation efforts ahead of the elections, urging unity and coordinated political engagement.
He set a bold target of at least three million votes for President Tinubu in Lagos State and encouraged strong performance for all APC candidates across elective positions.
He also urged the party’s structure in the South West to deepen collaboration to ensure a resounding electoral outcome across the region.
