The African Public Relations Association (APRA) President, alongside International Public Relations Association (IPRA) representatives and APRA Chief Administrative Officer Veronica Abuede, confirmed in a statement released that both organisations have renewed their longstanding partnership to expand global access for African communication practitioners.

The APRA IPRA alliance African PR professionals renewal is designed to strengthen professional development pathways, widen international networking opportunities, and enhance recognition for practitioners across the continent’s public relations industry.

Veronica Abuede, speaking on behalf of APRA, described the renewed collaboration as part of a broader strategic vision to connect African communicators with leading global institutions.

The association emphasised that the partnership is not new, but rather a continuation of a historical relationship that has shaped the profession in Africa for decades.

The origins of the APRA IPRA alliance African PR professionals relationship date back to 1975, when IPRA’s 20th anniversary conference in Nairobi provided the platform for African representatives to establish the Federation of African Public Relations Associations, which later evolved into APRA.

This historical link has continued to influence professional exchange and capacity building across the continent.

Abuede noted that the renewed agreement will give APRA members access to global PR networks, webinars, thought leadership content, and specialised development programmes.

Members will also be eligible for participation in IPRA initiatives, including judging opportunities for the Golden World Awards and engagement with emerging communication disciplines such as artificial intelligence and climate communication.

“As a member of APRA, we believe this presents an excellent opportunity to broaden your professional horizons while remaining firmly connected to Africa’s leading public relations community,” APRA stated in its communication to members.

The APRA IPRA alliance African PR professionals framework also aligns with APRA’s wider strategy of rebuilding relationships with other international bodies, including ICCO, WCFA, and CPRE.

These partnerships were highlighted during recent engagements in Namibia and Kenya, where APRA leadership outlined plans to deepen global integration ahead of its 50th anniversary activities.

Industry observers say the renewed collaboration reflects a growing recognition of Africa’s expanding role in global communications practice.

By linking African professionals with international platforms, the alliance is expected to enhance skills transfer, visibility, and participation in global discourse.

APRA reaffirmed its commitment to professional excellence, with Abuede stating that the organisation remains “unequivocally, irrevocably and accountably committed” to supporting members in becoming world-class communication professionals.
