In a statement released on Wednesday evening, signed by its president, Mansur Umar, the union announced that it had reached agreements with the Nigerian government to address their concerns.
According to Umar’s statement, some of the agreements include the immediate export of 25,000 metric tons of wheat to flour companies for processing and subsequent supply to bakers. This move aims to alleviate the shortage of wheat flour, a key ingredient in bakery production.
Furthermore, both parties have agreed to revisit the plan concerning the production of flour from alternative sources such as cassava, potatoes, and sorghum. This adjustment seeks to diversify flour production and reduce dependency on wheat imports.
Additionally, an agreement has been reached to provide support to bread bakers through a program facilitated by the Nigerian Ministry of Agriculture. This support program is anticipated to assist bakery owners in coping with the challenges they face in the current economic climate.
