Minister of Power Bayo Adelabu petitions DSS

Minister of Power Bayo Adelabu petitions DSS, accusing Primate Elijah Ayodele of demanding N150m for “spiritual intercession” for Oyo governorship bid

Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, has accused Primate Elijah Ayodele, founder of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church in Oke Afa, Lagos, of attempting to extort N150 million for “spiritual intercession” to support his Oyo State governorship bid.

Adelabu, a former governorship candidate and prospective contender in the 2027 Oyo governorship election, alleged that the cleric demanded the sum along with expensive spiritual items. He claims the demands were made to secure prophecies in his favour.

In a petition dated 13 October 2025 and signed by Bolaji Tunji, Adelabu’s Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, the minister approached the Department of State Services (DSS) to report what he described as blackmail and attempts to malign his reputation after he rebuffed Ayodele’s alleged requests.

The minister’s office stated that the false prophecies were intended to damage Adelabu’s public image, prompting the decision to involve the DSS.

The allegations have intensified attention on the intersection of politics and religious influence in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 election cycle.

The DSS is yet to comment on the petition or announce any subsequent investigations.
