Biodun Okeowo condemns lack of support in Nollywood, criticising actors for envy and failing to promote films within the industry

Nollywood actress and producer Biodun Okeowo has publicly condemned colleagues in the film industry for a lack of support and for fostering envy, describing such behaviour as “wicked” and detrimental to professional collaboration.

Okeowo made the remarks in a post shared on Instagram, where she addressed actors who appear in films but refuse to support producers during promotional campaigns.

The actress described this attitude as unnecessary and damaging to the growth of the industry.

She further criticised colleagues who are stingy with their support, highlighting that she has promoted numerous movies she did not feature in, doing so willingly to encourage a culture of collaboration.

“Some of you are so full of hate, envy, and Iwa Oshi that supporting others feels like a burden. You see another person’s progress as a threat instead of inspiration,” Okeowo wrote.

The actress praised those who had shown genuine support without prompting, emphasising that the industry is large enough to accommodate everyone’s growth.

“To the ones who show up when asked, and those who showed up without even being asked and genuinely supported, God bless you. The sky is big enough for all of us to fly. Stop the hate. Mtcheew,” she added.

Okeowo’s comments have sparked discussions across social media and entertainment circles about professionalism, cooperation, and the pressures of visibility in Nollywood, underscoring the importance of mutual support among industry professionals.
