After the vote count was finished today , the National Electoral Commission (NEC) announced that the candidate for president of Liberia he prevailed over the incumbent, George Weah.
According to former international football player Weah’s 49.36 percent of the vote, Boakai received 50.64 percent of the vote, according to commission president Davidetta Browne Lansanah, who addressed reporters.
Boakai prevailed by a mere 20,567 votes.
Nevertheless, Weah had already acknowledged defeat on Friday night, citing the outcomes of over 99.98% of the polling places.
However, the commission head said that on Friday it had received two appeals from Weah’s party concerning the conduct of the election in Nimba County.
The commission has 30 days to investigate and reach a decision, she said.
