BOCA Energy, BOCA IT systems win double honours as Lagos NUJ correspondents' chapel celebrates excellence at 2026 Press Week

BOCA Energy Resources Limited and BOCA IT Systems Limited emerged among the major winners at the 2026 Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Correspondents’ Chapel, Lagos State Council, receiving two prestigious awards in recognition of their outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s energy, technology and corporate development sectors.

The companies were presented with the Business Titan/CEO of the Year Award and the Most Innovative Energy and Technology Solution Providers Award during the grand finale of the Press Week held at the NERDC Conference Centre, Agidingbi, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

Also, the organization’s dynamic and creative Head of Media and Publicity, Alfred Abiodun, was recognized and awarded for his invaluable contributions to the development and progress of the company he represents and to the NUJ correspondents Chapel as well.

The event, themed “Journalism and Nation Building: Promoting Accountability and Good Governance,” brought together media professionals, captains of industry, public officials and other distinguished guests to celebrate excellence in journalism and national development.

The awards were presented to Engr. James Ukachukwu, Chairman and Managing Director of BOCA Energy Resources Ltd and BOCA IT Systems Ltd, in recognition of his leadership and the companies’ growing impact in delivering innovative solutions across the energy and technology sectors.

Representing the Managing Director at the event, the Director of Operations, Mr. Reginald Onyirioha Ofoegbu, described the recognition as a strong encouragement for the companies to continue contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s development.

According to him, the awards symbolize the organisations’ commitment to progressive ideals and responsible corporate citizenship.

“The award is a symbolic one. We are proud to associate with the progressive ideals that it represents, and we are encouraged to do even better. I can only say that we’re very encouraged, and we’re very proud,” he said.

Ofoegbu stressed that nation-building should not be left solely in the hands of the government, urging Nigerians to collectively contribute their expertise and resources towards national progress.

He noted that BOCA’s collaboration with the NUJ during the Press Week reflected the company’s belief in supporting institutions that promote accountability and good governance.

“The key word here is responsibility. The key word is being citizens who believe they have a stake in the outcome of everything we do in this country.

We should not leave everything to the government or spend our time pointing fingers. We must come together and contribute our skills towards building Nigeria.

“That is exactly what we are doing by collaborating with the NUJ to ensure a successful Press Week and to encourage journalists in their constitutional responsibility as the Fourth Estate of the Realm.

They hold the government accountable, scrutinise institutions, challenge the clergy where necessary, and even remind ordinary citizens of their responsibilities. They provide a platform that keeps everyone accountable.”

He added that BOCA Energy Resources and BOCA IT Systems remain committed to supporting initiatives that promote transparency, integrity and national development.

“As a corporate entity, BOCA is boldly saying that we are in sync with everyone who believes in the greatness of Nigeria, and we are ready to put our money where our mouth is,” he stated.

BOCA Energy, BOCA IT Systems Win Double Honours as Lagos NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel Celebrates Excellence at 2026 Press Week.

Earlier, in his address as Chairman of the occasion, Engr. James Ukachukwu, whose speech was delivered by Ofoegbu, expressed appreciation to the leadership of the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel for the honour of chairing the 2026 Press Week.

He reaffirmed the companies’ belief in strategic partnerships that drive national growth through professional excellence, informed public discourse and sustainable development.

Drawing from his experience in both the energy and technology industries, Ukachukwu described credible journalism as the foundation of every thriving democracy.

“If crude oil powers economies and technology powers innovation, then credible journalism powers democracy. Without trustworthy information, societies drift; with it, nations progress,” he said.

Speaking on the conference theme, he noted that the growing influence of social media has made professional journalism more important than ever.

“We live in an era where information travels faster than facts, where social media often competes with professional journalism, and where public trust has become one of the world’s most valuable currencies.”

He reminded journalists that they remain custodians of public trust, chroniclers of history and indispensable partners in national development.

According to him, while technology continues to reshape the media landscape, ethical journalism founded on accuracy, fairness, balance and integrity must remain constant.

Ukachukwu further observed that journalists and business leaders share a common asset credibility.

“In business, once trust is lost, customers walk away. In journalism, once credibility is compromised, audiences do the same. Trust, therefore, remains our shared capital,” he said.

He commended media professionals for promoting transparency, encouraging accountability and amplifying the voices of citizens, describing their work as indispensable to democratic governance.

The BOCA Chairman also praised journalists for asking difficult questions and helping society distinguish facts from misinformation.

“And while journalists often remind others that ‘the microphone is always on,’ today I will gently remind you that the notebook is always open as well,” he remarked.

He congratulated the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel on organising another successful Press Week and wished members fruitful deliberations and continued impact in advancing national development.

The double recognition further underscores BOCA Energy Resources Ltd and BOCA IT Systems Ltd’s growing reputation as leading players in Nigeria’s energy and technology sectors, while reaffirming the companies’ commitment to innovation, corporate excellence and meaningful partnerships that promote accountability, good governance and sustainable national development.
