SNP MP Amy Callaghan is recovering in hospital after suffering a brain haemorrhage, it has emerged this morning.
The MP for East Dunbartonshire was found collapsed at home by her partner, and has undergone emergency neurosurgery.
A statement issued by her office this morning said: “Thanks to the immense skill and response of the medical team involved in her care, Amy was able to successfully pull through the operation and is now stable in hospital.”
Thanking NHS staff for “saving her life”, it added: “Amy is in good spirits and able to communicate well with family.
She has been overwhelmed with the messages of support and kindness, which are a huge source of encouragement.
The 27-year-old ousted UK Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson as a first-time election candidate for the SNP in December’s general election, winning by just 149 votes.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and SNP leader has sent her good wishes to the 28-year-old who successfully overcame cancer.
Ms Sturgeon said on Twitter she was “sending lots of love and strength to @AmyCallaghanSNP and her family, and wishing her the speediest possible recovery.
Amy was rushed to hospital on June 10 after being found at home by her partner.
