Broda Shaggi shooting incident leaves the comedian hospitalised after sustaining a gunshot injury while filming a skit near Sango-Ota

Popular Nigerian comedian, skit maker and social media influencer Samuel Perry, widely known as Broda Shaggi, has been hospitalised after sustaining a gunshot injury during a filming session in the Sango Ota area of Ogun State.

The Broda Shaggi shooting incident reportedly occurred under the Sango Ota bridge on Sunday afternoon while the entertainer was filming a comedy skit with members of his production crew.

A police source who spoke on condition of anonymity because the officer was not authorised to comment publicly said the content creator was injured during the filming process, although the precise circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear.

According to the source, Samuel Perry was immediately rushed to Blooming Care Hospital in the Alakuko area of Lagos State, where medical personnel administered urgent first aid treatment.

“He was shooting a skit under the Sango Ota bridge when he sustained a gunshot injury. We do not yet have details of how it happened, but his crew members quickly rushed him to the hospital,” the source said.

Further findings indicated that the comedian was later referred to Duchess Hospital in the Government Residential Area of Ikeja, Lagos, where he is currently receiving additional treatment and recuperating.

Efforts to obtain comments from both hospitals were unsuccessful as calls to their publicly listed contact numbers did not connect. Text messages sent to the facilities had not been returned as of the time this report was filed.

Confirming the development on Thursday, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, said the police became aware of the incident after being alerted by hospital authorities.

“The hospital contacted the police to report that a gunshot victim had been brought to their facility.

Detectives and a patrol team were immediately mobilised to the hospital, where they discovered that the victim was a skit maker and social media influencer popularly known as Broda Shaggi,” Adebisi said.

Abimbola Adebisi added that the entertainer was found lying on a stretcher with an injury to his thigh when officers arrived at the hospital.

The police spokesperson explained that although the victim was receiving treatment in Lagos, the location where the Broda Shaggi shooting occurred falls within the Sango Ota area of Ogun State.

“The location of the incident is in Sango Ota and not within our jurisdiction, but the investigation is ongoing,” Adebisi said.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the alleged incident had not yet been formally reported to the police in the state.

“The incident was alleged to have occurred in Ogun State, but it was not reported,” Babaseyi stated.

Attempts to reach the entertainer’s manager, Olufemi Oguntamu, popularly known as Penzaar, were unsuccessful, as calls placed to his phone were not answered and a text message sent to him had yet to receive a response.

The incident has renewed concerns about safety around content creation locations. In October 2024, another content creator, Afeez Ojesanmi, popularly known as Salo, was reportedly robbed of his jewellery and shot in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

Authorities have yet to establish the circumstances that led to the latest shooting involving the popular comedian.
