A Canadian man died while staying at a Dominican Republic resort after he fell down some stairs and suffered a head injury, according to a report.

Mark Winchester, 42, of Nova Scotia, arrived with his wife and another couple Monday night at Iberostar resort for an all-inclusive vacation, Global News reported.

But during his stay, Winchester tumbled down a set of stairs and was found with an injury to the back of his head, the report said.

“I don’t know if he tripped up the second flight of stairs on the last stair or if he fell off the top from the third flight, or if he fell backwards,” his brother Donnie told the outlet. “I don’t know.”

He was brought to the hospital, where doctors tried but failed to save him, the report said.

“It all seems surreal to me,” his brother told the outlet. “He was happy-go-lucky, fun-loving, enjoyed life. Nothing really got him upset.”

Local authorities confirmed the man died of head trauma, adding that he was in a “state of inebriation” when he suffered the injury, the outlet reported.

“The circumstances surrounding his death are being investigated by the national police force,” police said in a statement, according to Global News.

Reps for the hotel didn’t immediately respond to request for comment.

Winchester’s death comes after a series of American tourists mysteriously dying and becoming injured last year at resorts on the Caribbean island, revealing a wide range of dangers, such as sudden illnesses and violent assaults.
