Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Chief Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, has marked his 46th birthday by donating the first-ever fully equipped ambulance to Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, in a major intervention aimed at improving emergency healthcare delivery.
The ambulance was officially presented in Bende on Tuesday, with Anyaso describing the gesture as part of his annual tradition of giving back to the community through impactful social interventions rather than elaborate birthday celebrations.
Speaking during the presentation, the businessman and philanthropist said the donation was motivated by the urgent need to strengthen emergency medical response in the constituency, noting that many health centres in Bende operate without ambulance services.
“This is my sincere pleasure and honour to give back to the land that gave birth to me. Every year on my birthday, I celebrate with people through outreach. This year, we chose to support the healthcare sector in my own constituency. This is the first-ever ambulance in Bende, and it is a brand-new one,” Anyaso said.
He explained that the ambulance would serve residents across the communities in Bende, particularly patients requiring urgent transportation to hospitals during medical emergencies. According to him, the intervention complements ongoing efforts to improve healthcare access in rural communities.
Anyaso also acknowledged the investments being made by the Abia State Government in the health sector under Governor Alex Otti, saying the donation was intended to support and strengthen the state’s healthcare reforms through community-based initiatives.
The Labour Party candidate recalled that his previous birthday outreach included donations of vehicle materials, food items and other relief supplies to the Nigerian Correctional Service in Umuahia, as well as educational support for nursing students at the Abia State Teaching Hospital. He said this year’s focus on emergency healthcare reflects his belief that timely medical intervention can save lives.
Residents and community leaders described the ambulance as a landmark development for Bende, noting that the local government had never previously possessed a dedicated emergency response vehicle for public healthcare services.
