Court orders Kano govt to pay man N30 billion over demolished property.

T he state government has been ordered by the Federal High Court in Kano to pay the N30 billion fine that was imposed on it for the illegal demolition of buildings and other property at the Kofar-Mata Eid-ground.

The Kano State Government was given a seven-day ultimatum by the court to make the payment.

During the state government’s plea for a stay of execution, Justice Simon Amobeda declared he would not reject the stay request.

Justice Amobeda, however, ordered the debtors/applicants to pay the N30 billion judgment sum into the court’s interest-yielding account to be obtained from the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court within the specified timeline.

The court ruled that the deposited sum, along with accruing interests and after deducting administrative charges, would be paid to the party who succeeds in the appeal as determined by the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court.

In a reaction, the state’s Attorney-General (AG) and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling.

He insisted that the state government had already taken further steps to appeal the decision at the Court of Appeal
