Media personality Daniel Regha has criticised Nigerian singer Burna Boy over the outfit he wore to the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony in London.
In a post on X, Regha said the Grammy-winning artiste missed an opportunity to represent Nigerian culture on the global stage.
“Burna Boy couldn’t even use his Ballon d’Or appearance to put Nigeria on the map culturally, went there wearing a basic suit that can be seen anywhere,” he wrote.
“Sadio Mane was bold enough to rock an African outfit and do the needful. Our people don’t know what cultural representation means.”
Burna Boy attended the ceremony and presented the Socrates Award to Arsenal and England winger Bukayo Saka. The singer was pictured in a velvet suit.
Regha’s comments have generated mixed reactions online, with some users agreeing that African stars should use major international platforms to highlight cultural identity, while others argued that personal style should not be dictated by expectations of traditional attire.
The debate forms part of a recurring conversation in Nigerian entertainment circles about how artists present African heritage at global events.
