As the tribunal sitting in Ogun State heats up, there are speculations that the Ogun State government, under the leadership of Dapo Abiodun, might be going after those who worked for the Nigerian president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during the last presidential election in Ogun State.
These assumptions couldn’t have been farther from the truth when it appears that the State Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the APC-PCC, Tinubu Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, Otunba Femi Davies, is the first casualty.
Already, many are wondering why it looks like the presidency has abandoned the governor, despite the latter’s many attempts at currying favour with the president in the ongoing legitimacy war he seems to be facing alone.
Although it is on record that Asiwaju’s presidency was not the governor’s first choice, political analysts still believe that the president is not interested in influencing any court’s decision.
It is also pertinent to note that Otunba Davies was appointed and served as the chairman of the media arm of the campaign council because of his diligence and he delivered for the mandate and candidacy of President Tinubu before it was dissolved in April 2023.
“If the detention has nothing to do with the state government, why hasn’t he been released by now because he is not a politician,” a family member who craved anonymity said.
He was invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) on August 7, 2023, and it is on record that he honoured the invitation as a law-abiding citizen and arrived at the DSS office at 10:00 am.
And since then, all attempts by his family and friends to reach him have proved abortive over 24hours after.
