Afrobeat star Davido performed at Ethiopia’s New Year party as the country marked the beginning of 2017. Thousands of Ethiopians gathered in Addis Ababa to celebrate, with many surprised by the fact that Ethiopia follows a calendar that is seven years behind the rest of the world. Social media users reacted humorously to Davido’s performance, with some jokingly suggesting that he travelled back in time.

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]frobeat sensation David Adeleke, famously known as Davido, thrilled thousands of Ethiopians during their New Year celebration, marking the year 2017.

The Ethiopian calendar, also known as the Ge’ez calendar, is rooted in the ancient Egyptian calendar and calculates the birth of Jesus differently, causing the disparity in years.

Their New Year is celebrated on either September 11th or 12th, and the festivities include religious services, traditional meals, and music performances like Davido’s.

The joyous event highlighted Ethiopia’s cultural distinctiveness and offered a unique experience for both locals and international performers like Davido.
