Deka George sister death: Nigerian influencer mourns sibling who died after childbirth complications, blaming lack of oxygen at a general hospital

Nigerian content creator Njideka Achilonu George, popularly known as Deka George, has publicly mourned the death of her sister, Evans Akinloye Chiamaka, blaming the tragedy on a lack of medical oxygen at a government hospital and her own absence during the critical moment.

Deka George announced the death in an emotional Instagram post on Friday, sharing photographs of her late sister and revealing that Evans Akinloye Chiamaka, aged 36, died following complications from childbirth.

The influencer said the loss had left her with a deep sense of grief, guilt and anger.

According to Deka George, she missed her sister’s final phone call because she was attending two separate court appearances in Lagos at the time.

Deka George explained that the calls came while she was moving between the Magistrate Court and the Federal High Court in Lagos, leaving her unable to respond immediately or travel to Abuja to be with her sister.

In a powerful message accompanying the post, the content creator alleged that the general hospital where Evans Akinloye Chiamaka was treated did not have oxygen available, a basic but critical resource that might have saved her life.

“Life is so fickle. My sister would have been alive today if I didn’t have two court cases in Lagos,” Deka George wrote. “

You called but I missed your call because I was busy fighting for my life and freedom in Lagos.”

Deka George apologised to her sister in the public message, expressing regret that she was unable to reach Abuja in time.

“A whole General Hospital didn’t have oxygen. Nigeria failed you. I failed you,” the influencer added in the post.

The tragic announcement has drawn sympathy from followers on social media and renewed concern about healthcare infrastructure and maternal care in parts of Nigeria.

The development comes as Deka George continues to face an ongoing legal dispute with hair vendor Rainbow Hairs.

The case began last year after the influencer accused the company of supplying substandard hair products despite receiving more than ₦200,000 in payment.
