The arrest was confirmed by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Bright Edafe, in a statement issued in Warri, where he provided details of the operation and subsequent seizure.
SP Edafe said officers of the Safer Highway Patrol stationed along the route intercepted a Toyota Sienna bus conveying passengers towards the northern part of the country during a routine but intelligence-led operation.
According to him, the vehicle driven by Osuke Stephen was subjected to a thorough search after officers flagged it for further inspection.
During the search, operatives uncovered illicit substances allegedly hidden in electric energy bulbs in an attempt to evade detection.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the exhibits recovered included 490 grams of a substance suspected to be cocaine and 4 grams of dried weeds suspected to be “loud”, a strain of cannabis.
He further noted that preliminary investigations indicated the substances were being transported to Abuja, raising concerns about a possible wider trafficking network.
Efforts, according to the command, are ongoing to identify and apprehend other suspects linked to the offence, as investigations continue.
