‘Economy of the future’ Lagos to commission 3000 fibre optic cables, provide free internet facilities in schools, hospitals

The Lagos State Government is set to commission 3000 fibre optic cables to schools, hospitals and other service centres across the state in its quest to provide free internet connections to boost service delivery.

Speaking about this, the Lagos State Special Adviser on Education, Barr. Tokunbo Wahab, who noted the significance of free internet in playing a vital part in government services and the efficiency of delivering these services to Lagosians, said the move is in Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu bid to contribute meaningfully to the quality of life of the people in the state.

According to the information available to Freelanews, Barr. Wahab made this revelation at an ongoing 5-day Higher Education Business Government Collaboration conference in the United Kingdom while addressing the delegates from the Lagos State tertiary institutions and officials of his office.

“In order to put Lagos State on the 21st-century pedestal and improve service delivery to the people, the government would be commissioning 3000 fibre optics cables before the middle of this year in order to provide free internet services to the students of primary, secondary and tertiary institutions. The service will also cover our health institution.

“With this in place, Lagos State is driving a different economy entirely, which is the economy of the future,” he stated.

He assured Lagosians that the 3000 fibre optic cables will be commissioned by the second quarter of this year.

To this end, the government of Babajide Sanwo-Olu has again taken a leap in redefining governance in Nigeria and comfortably securing the envious position the state has always maintained in the comity of states in Nigeria.

The conference, sponsored by Lagos State Government through the Office Of The Special Adviser On Education, is expected to make the delegates understand the context of global innovation and national development. It would also expose them to diverse opportunities, case examples, challenges, gaps and opportunities to exchange and share good practices through interactive discussions.
