The attackers confessed to being sent by PDP leaders from Esan North East. Okojie’s media aide confirmed the incident.

An assassination attempt on federal lawmaker Henry Okojie, who represents the Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency in Edo State, was foiled by security personnel attached to him.

Okojie, the husband of Nollywood star Mercy Johnson, was attacked at his residence by gunmen suspected to be political thugs.

According to a statement released by Okojie’s media aide, Michael Ihaza, the gunmen arrived in a Lexus GX 470 with Rivers State registration number PHC 253 FF, posing as police officers.

They gained access to Okojie’s residence, claiming they had an appointment with him. However, their plan was thwarted when security personnel intervened.

Two of the attackers fled, leaving behind the driver and one other individual, who were apprehended and are currently being interrogated by the police in Uromi.

The captured suspects confessed that they were sent by leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from Esan North East Local Government Area.

Efforts to get an official response from the Edo State Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of this report. The investigation continues as the suspects remain in custody for further questioning.
