EEDC starts Tranche B of free prepaid meter distribution for 13,335 Band ‘A’ customers across South-East Nigeria under NERC’s Meter Acquisition Fund

Enugu, Nigeria – The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC)** Plc has launched the second phase of its free prepaid meter rollout under “Tranche B” of the Meter Acquisition Fund (MAF) metering programme.

The initiative, mandated by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), aims to close the sector’s metering gap and eliminate estimated billing.

EEDC serves customers across the South-East, including Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Abia, and Ebonyi states.

In a statement, EEDC’s Group Head, Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh, explained that Tranche B targets unmetered Band ‘A’ customers.

He stressed that the meters and their installation are completely free, warning customers against making any payment or succumbing to inducements from installers.

“This aligns with our commitment to improving service transparency and customer satisfaction. Customers should verify and update their contact information at their local Customer Service Unit to facilitate the process,” Ezeh said.

The programme began on 2 November 2025 with a Know Your Customer validation exercise, and 13,335 customers are expected to benefit in this phase.

Tranche A, completed earlier this year, metered 13,614 Band ‘A’ customers.

Ezeh added that after all Band ‘A’ customers are covered, the focus will shift to Band ‘B’ customers as part of a systematic effort to eliminate metering gaps.

Customers not captured in Tranche B are encouraged to remain patient, as further initiatives under the Distribution Sector Recovery Project are underway.

“Customers should avoid meter bypass, energy theft, and other illegal activities, and report any such incidents to the company,” he advised.

For inquiries, customers can reach EEDC via the call centre 02084700100 or WhatsApp lines 0707 461 0095 and 0707 461 0088.

The Meter Acquisition Fund is a nationwide pool contributed by all distribution companies to procure prepaid meters for free deployment, managed by a fund administrator under NERC’s supervision.
