Ekiti State Government has begun move to actualise the state’s agro-allied cargo airport aimed at boosting the state’s agricultural, tourism and educational endowment.

It has, therefore, approved the engagement of a consultant for the design and supervision of the project.

A statement by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Value Orientation, Mr. Muyiwa Olumilua, yesterday in Ado-Ekiti, said the appointment of the consulting engineering firm was confirmed at the virtual meeting held by the Ekiti State Executive Council on June 11, 2020.

In another development, the state governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has presented the instrument of appointment and staff of office to the new Onimesi of Imesi-Ekiti in Gbonyin Local Council, Oba Festus Olatunji Olatunde.

Fayemi was represented by his deputy, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, at the event held at the Conference Hall, Governor’s Office.

The governor urged the monarch to work harmoniously with his subjects to accelerate the development of the community.

In his remark, the Onimesi pledged to pursue peaceful co-existence and use the diversity in his domain as a launchpad for socio-economic development and sustainable growth in all facets of life.

MEANWHILE, Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Mr. Femi Bamisile, has appealed to the contractor handling the rehabilitation of the collapsed Ureje Bridge in Ado-Ekiti to deliver quality job.

The former Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, told the contracting firm, to as a matter of urgency, provide alternative road to mitigate the hardship being experienced by residents and prevent a section of the residents of the state capital from being outrightly cut off from the capital city.

He said that creating an alternative road became expedient owing to the strategic nature of the road to the survival of the state’s economy and its people.

Bamisile said he had been at the forefront of the struggle for the rehabilitation of the bridge since it was submerged by flood in 2019.

He said the contractor must deliver a quality job, taking cognisance of the hardship the people had experienced, particularly the death of some people and the multi-million naira property that were destroyed the attendant flood.
