In commemoration of the 2020 World Environment Day, CMC Connect (Perception Managers) one of Nigeria’s foremost strategic communications groups announces the launch of an initiative called ‘Plastic Responsibly Nigeria’.

According to the Associate Group Head of the company, Sunkanmi Ogunniyi, Plastic Responsibly Nigeria is committed to causing a major rethink by educating Nigerians on the dangers of irresponsible plastic use in our communities. The initiative is aimed at driving attitudinal change by causing plastic lifestyle modifications. The key actions for Plastic Responsibly Nigeria are Responsible Production, Responsible Use, Responsible Disposal and Responsible Recycling.

“For us at CMC Connect, the inimical effects of plastic pollution are enough to cause significant worry for Nigerians and we must therefore collectively aim to reduce its hazards and threats to biodiversity. Such include drainage blockage which causes perennial flooding especially in major urban centres of the country.

“CMC Connect, through Plastic Responsibly Nigeria, will engage in advocacy, community engagements and outreaches, research and volunteer activities working with like-minded individuals and entities. We urge corporate organisations and governments to partner with us in our quest to keep our environment protected,” he said.

CMC Connect also recognized and commended the efforts of the Lagos State Government led by Babajide Sanwo-Olu in its quest to ban the use of single-use plastic through its agency, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA). The perception company strongly recommended that other states and indeed the federal government emulate this laudable move by swiftly enacting laws that prevent plastic abuse in our environment.
