Falz urges Nigerians to take stronger action before 2027 vote

The activist and entertainer says citizens must use their votes to demand accountability, arguing that political participation remains the strongest tool for change.

Nigerian entertainer and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has urged citizens to become more politically engaged ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying Nigerians must take stronger action to demand accountability from leaders.

Falz made the call on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme, where he encouraged Nigerians, particularly first-time voters, to recognise the importance of participating in elections.

The activist said many citizens express dissatisfaction with political leadership but need to translate those concerns into meaningful action through the electoral process.

“We’re not enraged enough. We’re not angry enough. We need to react more,” Falz said during the interview.

He argued that while Nigerians frequently criticise those in power, citizens must also challenge themselves to take responsibility for shaping the country’s political direction.

“A lot of times we speak truth to power and point fingers, but we have to challenge ourselves also,” he said.

Falz urged young Nigerians approaching their first elections to understand the influence of their votes, rejecting the idea that individual participation has little impact on national outcomes.

“The most important people for this are first-time voters. If our votes didn’t matter, politicians would not be doing everything within their power to try and influence results,” he said.

He pointed to practices such as vote buying as evidence that political actors recognise the importance of electoral choices.

“If votes didn’t matter, there would not be vote buying. If there is an overwhelming majority of people moving in a certain direction, it will be impossible for them to cheat,” Falz added.

The comments come as political discussions intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, with issues including governance, economic pressures, accountability and youth participation expected to shape public debate.

Falz, known for combining entertainment with social commentary, has previously spoken on issues including civic responsibility, inequality and government accountability.

His latest remarks reinforce his long-standing call for Nigerians to become more active participants in democratic processes rather than limiting engagement to criticism of political leaders.

As preparations for the next general election continue, political analysts have identified voter awareness and youth participation as key factors likely to influence electoral outcomes.
